Puzzle Box: identify the mode before choosing a method

Start with the visible board
Identify the active mode by its layout: a full grid of numbers, four number lanes or colored endpoints on open cells. Each layout presents a different planning question. Locate the score, the waiting choices and the tool row before acting. When changing modes, inspect those controls again rather than assuming that the same action has the same effect on every board.
The two number boards need different questions
The 5-by-5 grid has +1/+2 choices below it; the lane board has four columns and a waiting 4 tile. On the grid, inspect what the available increment choices refer to. On the lane board, inspect which column would receive the waiting tile.
Trace endpoint routes on the path board
The pink route follows the lower edge, while yellow turns through the middle. Inspect where each route occupies a corridor and what remains open for the other colored pair.
